Summer 2010, off to a great start

The summer is finally here with lots of sunny skies. I have been pretty busy leading into these dog days. Three major weddings shot in June. Completed shooting 8 High School seniors grad images and a few family portraits. Lokking forward to a few weeks off. London Devils Hockey Tournament

Ventured down to London Ontario to attend the 20th annual Devils Hockey Tournament. This all girl event was allot of fun for our group and well organized. I took my camera gear along and was able to shoot a couple of the games behind the bench. I used a Nikon 300mm 2.8 Nikon lens for both games which is a stunning lens. Its so big i had to use a monopod just to keep the weight balanced. If you are watching the Vancouver Olympics you will see those monster lens that the event photographers use. So here are a few frames of the 300+ that were taken with that monster of a lens.

Who said Communion Images Need to be Boring…

Wow, before you know it spring will be just around the corner. With spring comes the Communion season. Over the past few years I have really grown in the Communion portrait area of my photography business. People seem o want more of a casual look to their images for their children. When setting up for a session I incorporate both traditional and modern portraits. If you have been to the studio at 270 Sherman you will realize that this setting offers both of best options.

Each session starts in the studio against a backdrop that is chosen to compliment the child’s attire. These images are more formal and we compliment the images with the use of keepsakes.

Once the traditional images are complete, we work our way around the facility and create more modern images of your child. The use of the building as a backdrop opens endless options for creating stunning images. Large open windows with natural light, 100 year old brick walls that show their age. Moving the session outdoors allows for additional creativity with the use of staircases,fire escapes and loading docks meant for horse and buggies. Its like stepping back two centuries.

Due to the shortness of the communion season, booking your session is key. Dates are available but they will fill up very quickly. Well a new year and a new decade. If you look back at the start of 2000 and compare it to the end of 2009 alot of things changed. Had a baby girl in 2000…. the world did not end in 2000… then 9/11….and a couple of wars broke out. We lost a few family members in the past decade which is never good… Sold tens of milllions of dollars worth of frozen dinners german pizzas and fish in a blue box across Canada. Still not sure where it all ends up…
Took some excellent trips across the world and saw some awesome places around the world…Italy,France,Southern Ireland,Northern Ireland,Cuba,D.Republic, San Diego, L.A, Palm Springs, San Fran , New York City , Miami, Vegas , Montreal , Vancouver , Calgary, Halifax and even Knoxville and Atlanta for business. I went to the Masters and stood 10 feet from Tiger and Golfed Pebble Beach on two separate trips…and for the majority of these trips I had my camera !

I also got back into photography in the middle part of the decade as new technology was released. I am also guessing that technology will be completely different by the end of decade vs the start. Todays iPhones will be a thing of the past and youtube will be something different and social media will be different too. Its going to be a different decade then the past…So whats in store for the next ten..who knows. But I plan on having a camera with me and will continue to push myself to create images better then the last….

Well today was a perfect day, the sun was out and the trees were loosing their leaves. Not sure how much longer the weather and fall will be. So we go together with Vinnie and his mom and dad and headed to an area where we could grab some frames of the family rolling in the leaves…to motivate Vinnie a pocket full of Smarties paid dividends.

Well this afternoon I took off to Guelph to meet up with Colleen and Brian for their Engagement Session.I would call this a cross border engagement as Colleen is Canadian and Brian is American. They met at the University of Purdue where they are both studying. They will be married next year in Guelph, Colleens home town. We actually shot the “E” session at two different locations. The first stop was the U of G and the second spot was the U of G’s arboretum. The setting is a bit nostalgic as its was where Colleen first graduated from before heading off to Purdue.

I had the pleasure of shooting a fantastic family function last night at Liuna Station. It was the 80th birthday of Areil Nurse. His family put on the event at one of Hamilton’s most beautiful facilities. Alot of family flew in from the United States for this special event.
Mr.Nurse’s event was a surprise party but he handled the surprise like a pro. A few speaches, some great singers paying tribute to Mr Nurse. Here are a few of the images from the night.
